Simple syrup should be just that — SIMPLE. But so many people recommend pulling out a pot or pan and whisk to make simple syrup.
So I posed the age-old question made infamous by those 90s infomercials: THERE HAS GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY!?
Simple Syrup Made Simple
To make a simple syrup, it should be as easy as dissolving sugar in water….because that’s all that it is.
My simple syrup recipe uses a heat-resistant glass, freshly boiled water from your kettle, a funnel (if you’re a messy bessy like me), and sugar.
Pour the sugar into the heat-resistant glass, add the freshly boiled water (of equal amount), and shake.
After you shake for 5 seconds, you will see the sugar already dissolving. As the bottle cools, just shake occasionally as needed. After 30 minutes, the bottle should be cooled enough to put in the fridge, and all the sugar should be dissolved.
A couple of notes:
✨ It doesn’t quite work with rich simple (2 parts sugar to 1 part water). But hey, I’m lazy and do it anyway, and the sugar eventually dissolves around 99% of the way.
✨ It’s a great way to cold-infuse flavors! Just add whatever ingredient (vanilla, spices, lavender, bacon) and let it infuse for a few hours to taste.
✨ It’s never too hot for me (barista hands), but if it’s too hot, just put on some mitts for safety before you shake.
